Metis Hunting Rights
On September 19, 2003 the Supreme Court of Canada rendered a decision on a Historic Metis Hunting Rights case. The decision on appeal of the "R. v. Powley" case was unanimous and affirmed that Metis across Western Canada have a right to hunt and fish for food.

Northwest Metis Council Annual General Meeting 2004
The Northwest Metis Council Inc. Annual Regional Meeting was held on Saturday March 01, 2003 in Dauphin, Manitoba. There were approximately 280 members and guests in attendance.
Highlights for the day were:
- Acceptance of Roblin and Laurier as Locals of the Northwest Region
- Elections for two position forthe Northwest Local Management Board
- Election Forum following the Regional Meeting with Presidential, Vice Presidential and Board candidates involved in Provincial MMF Election
- Social Evening with live music heldat the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium following the meeting
